CROWN POINT, INDIANA
The excitement level was high last Thursday at Hyles-Anderson College. The fundamentalist school founded by the Reverend Jack Hyles finalized and submitted a proposal to the United States government to issue a one dollar "Authorized" commemorative coin featuring the late minister.
Hyles pastored the First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana for over 40 years during which time he founded Hyles-Anderson College, staunchly defended the King James Bible and forcefully spoke out against other Christian leaders as being 'liberals.'
The announcement was made to the student body during Thursday's chapel service. "This is an historic day." Said Dr. Jack Schaap, pastor of First Baptist Church Hammond and Chancellor of the college. "We are submitting this proposal to the United States Government as a lasting monument to the work of Brother Hyles and the King James Bible. This coin will be a witness of his work and the purity of the Authorized Version 1611 every time someone spends a dollar."
The coin will feature a portrait of Hyles on the obverse along with the national motto "In God We Trust," and the standard U.S. coin information, the date and the mint mark. On the reverse of the coin there will be an artistic rendition of an open Bible, the phrase "e pluribus unum" and "The Authorized Version of 1611" commemorating the King James Version of the Bible.
"I have never seen such a beautiful coin." Said Dr. Wendell Evans, president of the college. "This coin is perfect and without error. It is pure, refined in a fire seven times. We are hoping and praying that the United States Government will see fit to authorize this beautiful coin."
But the celebration and enthusiasm may be short-lived.
"This is very strange." Said United States Mint Director Edmund Moy. "The United States Government does not receive proposals for coinage in this fashion. I'm not sure what these people are expecting will happen, but I can assure you the U.S. mint will not be minting any Jack Hyles coins in the future."
But Hyles-Anderson College remains confident.
"Our faith is strong on this matter." Said Schaap. "We are confident that the Authorized Coin will be approved and that soon millions of Americans will know the great legacy of Jack Hyles."

It is sad how people can be caught up in such lies. I grew up in the same town as Hyles Anderson College and live there still. You can periodically see their green school busses taking people from school to work and out witnessing. I have had opportunity to speak with them on occasion and it is clear that they are in error, beleiving in a works-based salvation and other lies. They are very prominent here though and actually give the rest of the community a bad representation of what it is to be "baptist". I told my parents I was going to a baptist church and they were scared for me.
Was this school the inspiration for this post the other week?

DT,
Yes, and no. The main inspiration was Longview Baptist Temple in Longview, Texas. But First Baptist Hammond, Indiana falls into the same category.

I went to Hyles Anderson College and we don't believe in works salvation! There are some crazy people, some fanatics that have gone and graduated from HAC. Unfortunatly, those are the people always seem to meet AND base their opinion on when judging the college. HAC has its faults but it was and is a great place to be and be from!
As far as coins go if we can make coins with buffalo on them why not with a preacher that did great things for God. As far as the comment by anonymous works-based salvation has never been a teaching of First Baptist Church or Hyles-Anderson College.
Hyles-Anderson College and First Baptist Church have never taken the stand of work-based salvation. As far as this alleged coin, a call to the college confirms that this story has been fabricated.
Whoever wrote this is a moron and has no clue what they are talking about. I was at Hyles-Anderson college at the time this supposedly happened and it DID NOT. There are so many ridiculous things in this article. For instance, Bro. Schaap always comes on Fridays not Thursdays. Get a job, or at least and life and do something productive besides writing idiotic articles!
Dear Anonymous,
Since you seem to have trouble reading what is clearly printed on the site, let me help you out.
The "Whoever" - Thomas Slawson, 30 years old. Survivor of radical fundamentalism, the kind espoused by Jack Hyles and Hyles-Anderson college. The guy who you in Christian loved called a "moron."
The Job - Missionary to Russia, currently living in St. Petersburg with my wife and 19 month-old child.
The Life - Servant of the Living God. Devoted to reaching the lost of Russia with the gospel.
The Productivity - Currently learning the Russian language, teaching English to Russian children, working in a Russian church, working on the production of a hymnal in the Tuvan language, helping a wife care for a disabled child, constantly looking for opportunities to build up the Kingdom.
Now, I hope that helps.
Normally I simply delete anonymous bantering, but in your case, leaving your comment up only proves what is true about Hyles-Andersonites.
Ignorance: - You were first ignorant of the facts. A little investigation would have revealed that this is a site that deals with THEOLOGICAL SATIRE as clearly printed at the top of the page.
Straw Man: - Next, based on your ignorance, you set up a straw man.
Personal Attack: - Finally, you began attacking that straw man with personal name calling and emotional outbursts.
This characterizes perfectly the HA type. Thank you for simply proving my point.

People that attended Hyles Anderson College wanted to live their life under control of a powerful and demeaning man. Most are puppets and all they learned is yelling, control, fighting and anger. They show no love and they do not know what being under the Holy Spirits control means. This is so sad.

I add:
...it's only logical to mint a coin showing what the buffalo left behind.
And @What's Up Today? said:
Hyles-Anderson College and First Baptist Church have never taken the stand of work-based salvation.
again I say:
They may not stand there but they sure practice there.
